Trick or Donate is back - Kilndown's support for the local food bank

Following the success of last year, this year instead of Trick or Treating and asking for donations of chocolate and sweets we would like to encourage all children from the village to collect for donations for the Tunbridge Wells Foodbank.

Nourish Community Foodbank provided 57,438 (up 38% since 2018) meals last year to Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas and 46% of those were to children under 18 years old. These people need supporting due to benefit changes, unemployment, domestic abuse, having debt problems and as a result of having had an accident or being unwell. For more information on the charity or how you could support them please click here.

On the 31st October we will be meeting in the Village Hall at 5pm to then walk around the village to collect your donations. If you are happy for the children to knock please display the leaflet which can be downloaded here or that will be posted through your Kilndown letterbox in October. If you prefer not to have anyone knock but would still like to donate, donations can be left at the Village Hall from 4pm or before the 31st at Blackberry Cottage, Rogers Rough Road, Kilndown. TN17 2RJ.

The foodbank have asked in particular for the following items however any donation no matter how small of any food or toiletries would be gratefully received.

mostwanted.jpg

After the collection we will be hosting a little children's party in the Village Hall until 7.30pm so that the children still get a chance to have a sugar fix and see their friends all dressed up.

If anyone has any questions or would like to volunteer to help with the party or donate a sugary cake or tasty treat please contact Laura-Louise White on 07790231183 or email on llblair_2000@yahoo.co.uk.

What to do as the nights draw in? Kilndown Filmclub has the answer

The Kilndown Film Club are thrilled to bring the next instalment of autumn films for your enjoyment. We’d love to see you all there

Saturday 21st September 2019 - Red Joan

English born Joan Stanley, a Soviet and communist party sympathizer, becomes employed as a British government civil servant, and gets recruited by the KGB in the mid 1930s. She successfully transfers nuclear bomb secrets to the Soviet Union (Russia), which enables them to keep up with the west in the development of atomic weapons, and remains undetected as a spy for over a half a century.

Friday 25th October 2019- Fisherman’s Friends

A fast-living, cynical London music executive (Danny Mays) heads to a remote Cornish village on a stag weekend where he's pranked by his boss (Noel Clarke) into trying to sign a group of shanty singing fishermen (led by James Purefoy). He becomes the ultimate 'fish out of water' as he struggles to gain the respect or enthusiasm of the unlikely boy band and their families (including Tuppence Middleton) who value friendship and community over fame and fortune. As he's drawn deeper into the traditional way of life he's forced to re-evaluate his own integrity and ultimately question what success really means.

Friday 29th November 2019 - The White Crow

Ralph Fiennes' THE WHITE CROW was inspired by the book Rudolf Nureyev: The Life by Julie Kavanaugh. The drama charts the iconic dancer's famed defection from the Soviet Union to the West in 1961, despite KGB efforts to stop him

Friday 13th December 2019 - Yesterday

The Kilndown Monthly Pop-Up-Pub starts on Thursday 18th July

In 1880 a site opposite the Globe and Rainbow was gifted to the village by Edward Hussey of Scotney and a ‘neat wooden building’ was erected, constructed by Mr Player, the cost of which was defrayed by the Reverend Henry Harrison. This was known as the Kilndown Club and Institute to be used as a recreational reading room and working men’s club, it was bequeathed to church trustees in 1882 by Henry Harrison to be used for the same or like purposes as long as it was needed. Uses of the building varied widely over the years, Drill Hall for the Home Guard, extra schoolroom, Scout and Guide Hut, and a paint store for a local decorator.

Since the demise of The Globe and Rainbow as a drinking establishment, there has been a lack of a meeting place for ‘local’ people to meet and chew the cud; and so the idea of using the QC as a Pop up Pub has been suggested.

We aim to meet maybe once a month on a Thursday night to dates advertised via email or on the notice board by the pond.

Members pay a modest membership fee for ‘The Season’ to cover venue hire and charitable donation and to possibly subsidise ‘events’.

Members bring along their drinks (and snacks) of choice and spend the evening enjoying one another’s company; possibly pub games and of course general banter!

What better environment than the centre of the village and picturesque pond to spend a summers evening with friends and family or a winters evening tucked up away from the weather?

Our next meet up is planned for the 18th July from 7pm when this years subs of £10 per household will be collected..........we look forward to seeing you there.

For more information or to be added to the email list, please email  kilndownpup@gmail.com.

"Its showtime!" Kilndown Film Club proudly presents.......

The next flicks coming to Kilndown Film Club should not be missed. All in Kilndown Village Hall, refreshments available.

The true story of Hollywood's greatest comedy double act, Laurel and Hardy, is brought to the big screen for the first time. Starring Steve Coogan and John C. With their golden era long behind them, the pair embark on a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland. Despite the pressures of a hectic schedule, and with the support of their wives Lucille (Shirley Henderson) and Ida (Nina Arianda) - a formidable double act in their own right - the pair's love of performing, as well as for each other, endures as they secure their place in the hearts of their adoring public.

CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME? is the true story of best-selling celebrity biographer (and friend to cats) Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy) who made her living in the 1970's and 80's profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. The film is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers' additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

Your Village Hall needs your help

The Village Hall is one of our remaining amenities and is operated on a voluntary basis by a team of local villagers who work to keep the Hall open for all to use and enjoy.

We are currently seeking a new Booking Officer as the present holder of that position will be shortly retiring from it. This is an important role, as without it we will not be able to keep the Hall open, and the Committee are able to offer some financial reward where circumstances dictate.

The position will involve taking and controlling bookings on an as it happens basis. These are currently online so a little computer knowledge would certainly be useful but not essential. We will be able to offer training and ongoing help as we all work as a team.

If you are interested or can help please in the first instance contact Tracy Roberts on 01892 891122 who can explain the work involved in more detail. You can also speak to any other member of the committee.

Do you have a superhero, greatest showman or princess that need a party?

Following the huge interest in the princess events in 2018 Princess And the Pea Events are now offering character entertainment packages for parties and events where you can have a princess, a superhero character or even a dancing theme such as the Greatest Showman.

They provide all Party games, present for the birthday girl / boy and entertain throughout the entirety of the party so the parents can sit back and enjoy the day.

They have a special introductory offer to beat the January blues. If you book for an event or party during January you get 25% off the full price (parties don’t have to be paid until 2 weeks before the event - so its just a date in the diary for now!)

They can come to your home, a venue you have hired (like the Kilndown Village Hall) or even a school.

You can take a look at past parties and events by looking at their facebook page or on their website www.princessandthepea.co.uk
